Our garden

December 20, 2021

The association currently has a 0.5 ha fenced garden for market gardening.

The old vegetable garden was ravaged by cows at the beginning of December because of too fragile and worn crintins (fences). The villagers are currently resuming sowing. The area of the vegetable garden has been halved and surrounded by new crintins.

Market gardening consists mainly of tomatoes, onions, peppers, peanuts, okra. It is ready to welcome new plants and varieties of vegetables depending on the seeds available in the Kédougou store. The presence of the stream and a well next to the garden allow the constant water supply from October to March. Watering is done using watering cans.

From March to May, water is scarce or even non-existent because of the drought and the absence of rains during the previous months. The rainy season starts from May until September. The garden at this time does not need to be watered because the water is abundant and present on the surface.

About twenty people work there daily, mainly women.

In addition, to optimize yield, the village collects manure from its livestock. But the enclosure is far away and the villagers have to carry it on their backs for 5km.

The association's project is to relocate a new vegetable garden over 5 ha with new means of irrigation such as a drip system supplied by a future borehole and water tower.

These 5 ha will be used by the villagers to be self-sufficient in food as well as to be able to market the cultivated products and create income and jobs.

The isolation of the village and the absence of vehicles do not allow contact with the outside world and thus be able to benefit from income to meet basic needs such as combating waste, obtaining new tools and having the necessary funds to to perpetuate the productions.

Market gardening is at the center of the projects carried out by the association as it will help fight against poor nutrition and isolation.

Thus, it is clear that the village has put in place all the necessary things at its disposal to carry out this project, the final goal of which is the creation of an agricultural school around market gardening and on a larger scale to share this knowledge. with the whole region.

Despite the efforts and motivation of all the members of the association, this project can only succeed with the help of external partners whose financial capacity will allow the completion of all the projects.
